School children and teacherNAPERVILLE – State Senator Laura Ellman announced that eight school districts across the 21st District will receive over $915,000 in additional funding to help alleviate financial challenges.

“Evidence-based funding gives schools the resources and financial backing they need,” said Ellman (D-Naperville). “These investments are critical in ensuring local schools meet their children’s educational needs.”

The funding comes from the 2017 Illinois Senate Democrat-backed evidence-based funding formula – an overhaul of the way the state funds K-12 education. The law made school funding more equitable by calculating the needs of individual school districts and basing its state revenue on those needs. The formula takes into account a district’s total enrollment, poverty rate and number of special education or English language learners, among other factors.

Local schools set to receive funding through the formula:

  • Glen Ellyn School District 41: $2,975
  • Lombard School District 44: $2,808
  • Downers Grove Grade School District 58: $87,527
  • Glenbard Township High School District 87: $169,094
  • Glen Ellyn Community Consolidated School District 89: $1,968
  • Lisle Community Unit School District 202: $1,417
  • Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204: $635,647
  • Naperville Community Unit School District 203: $14,350

The Fiscal Year 2025 budget invested $530 million in new funding into students’ success through the evidence-based funding model.
