NAPERVILLE – Thanks to strong support from State Senator Laura Ellman, the Naperville and Glen Ellyn Park districts received a combined total of $1.2 million from the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant to help continue ongoing improvements.
“Strong communities start with strong public spaces,” said Ellman (D-Naperville). “Investing in our parks is an investment in the quality of life for every resident, now and for future generations.”
OSLAD is a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. It has become one of the most popular grant programs in Illinois. Since its establishment, OSLAD has awarded $675 million for park projects throughout Illinois.
The Glen Ellyn Park District received $600,000 to make improvements at Village Green Park and the Naperville Park District received $600,000 to improve the Nike Sports Complex.
“This funding will make a meaningful difference for our community,” said Dave Thommes, Executive Director of the Glen Ellyn Park District. “The $600,000 OSLAD grant allows us to advance important improvements at Village Green Park while maximizing the impact of local taxpayer dollars. We appreciate Senator Ellman’s continued support and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ commitment to strengthening parks that serve residents of all ages.”
